At the Scottish Social Mobility Society, we are dedicated to promoting social mobility by supporting and advocating for Scottish students, especially those from state school backgrounds, at the University of Edinburgh. We strive to foster a sense of community by creating an inclusive and welcoming space where students from similar backgrounds can connect, share experiences, and support each other.
Through events, workshops, and campaigns, we aim to educate and raise awareness about the importance of social mobility and diversity, shedding light on the unique challenges faced by Scottish students and particularly those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. We also take pride in celebrating Scottish culture, embracing and honouring the heritage that shapes our community.
We have created a pressure group to collate Scottish student's experiences, and hold the university to account where applicable, with the hope that our university can be more accomodating to Scottish students.
We hold regular events and society days where Scots can meet up, share experiences and enjoy the company of other students from similar backgrounds.
We help to put on gigs with local bands, aiding to cultivate our culture and Scottish music scene.
